Senior Director GBS Accounting & Tax Europe (M/F) Full-time

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:
GBS is the engine that designs, builds and operates consistent adidas end-to-end business services & solutions globally to drive the transformation to ONE ADIDAS, enabling our Business Partners to focus on core business.
It is the overarching goal to move adidas to a consistent, standardized and automated operating model with solid governance and architecture.

This role is part of GBS with the primary focus:

  • to provide Accounting and Tax Services for adidas and Reebok brands, the wholesale, franchise, own retail and e-com business for Europe (excluding the DACH and Benelux countries[DJ1] ).
  • manage these services structured into 7 teams. 1 for D2C (Retail & e-com ) services specific and 6 geographical clusters. These include the countries Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia (cluster ?EAST?), France (cluster ?FRANCE?), Spain (cluster ?IBERIA?), Italy (cluster ?ITALY?), UK, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland (cluster ?NORTH?), Greece, Cyprus, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia (cluster ?SEE?).

  • to ensure that for all entities IFRS/Statutory reporting and all fiscal & tax reporting are completed accurately, timely, and are audited without issue.
  • to effectively manage the Accounting and Tax team of Europe in all relevant locations (country teams across Europe and the GBS Porto center located in Portugal).

  • to optimize service delivery and customer satisfaction for the services delivered across the joined teams in Europe and GBS Porto.


Key Responsibilities and General Accountabilities:

Core Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Strategical
  • Representing Accounting Leadership for Europe and participate in the leadership meetings
  • Partner and collaborate as business partner with Market finance directors, Corporate Finance and Senior Management.

  • Develop relationships and strong lines of communication across functions and markets to allow for effective collaboration and successful execution of deliverables

  • Drive operational productivity and efficiency by providing clear and focused direction
  • Take ownership of work quality of the team to ensure stable operations and services with the appropriate level of accuracy and timeliness.
  • Build and lead a focused and resilient team, own and drive team?s development

  • Be accountable for the improvement and customer satisfaction related to the delivery processes, including delivery of the efficiency savings.


Tactical
  • Lead the Accounting and Tax function for Europe, together with the team of Finance Directors and Managers for Europe (structured into 7 teams. One for D2C (Retail & e-com) and the six geographical ones; EAST, FRANCE, IBERIA, ITALY, NORTH and SOUTHEAST EUROPE).

  • Ensure proper resources allocations and keep the highest level of statutory and tax compliance for the responsible countries.
  • Drive the implementation and improvement of standard accounting (Plan to Report) processes, systems globally
  • Contribute to GBS priorities, KPI?s, OKR and relevant elements of GBS roadmap
Operational
  • Accountability for all actuals in P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Management reporting.
  • Ensure seamless operations across processes and teams.
  • Integration of GBS Porto Close to Report teams and country finance organizations into 6 clusters structure to operate as ONE team.

  • Facilitate proper cluster specific and D2C (Retail & e-com) specific reporting
  • Support and facilitate changing requirements for IFRS and other reporting resulting out of the changes from Europe organization.

  • Ensure that system testing is carried efficiently and effectively so that the system meets our accounting, taxation and reporting requirements.


Functional Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Reporting and Compliance
  • Ensure that the Year End Group Reporting and audits happens accurately and timely, handled without material amendments requested by the auditors.

  • Ensure that the Month End and Year End Financial Statements are produced for all legal entities within reporting timeframes and internal deadlines.
  • Ensure the monthly rebate accrual calculations are correct together with Sales Controlling.

  • Ensure that key items of Balance Sheet are reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that the balance sheet is correctly and appropriately stated including alignment with payroll teams.

  • Ensure accounting entries are compliant with Group and Local Accounting Standards for all Europe countries part of the 6 clusters.


Taxation and Compliance
  • Ensure that all Corporation Tax Computations are performed timely and accurately with the help of external advisors. And all payments are made timely.

  • Ensure that all VAT reporting (SAFT, VAT returns etc) are performed accurately, submitted and paid on time.
  • Work with Group Taxes to ensure that all legal entities follow the Group?s Transfer Pricing mechanisms and guidance, and all Tax Reporting to Group is made timely and accurately.

  • Provide the business with support on VAT, Corporate Tax, Personal Income Tax and other tax matters as and when requested.
  • In cooperation with group taxes establish and manage MDR (Mandatory Disclosure Rules) reporting system in the EU countries (Directive 2018/822).
Treasury
  • Ensure that cash flow forecasting (liquidity planning) is provided to the Group in a timely and accurate manner. Variances from last forecast and actuals are reviewed and understood, and where appropriate amendments to future assumptions and calculations are made.

  • Liaise with Group Treasury and Bank contacts on all banking related matters as appropriate

  • Ensure that all legal entities are insured for appropriate risks at appropriate value for money.

  • Markets: SVP Finance Europe, VP Finance Central, VP Finance North, VP Finance South, , VP Brand & Commercial Performance Management, FP&A Europe, Demand Planning, Internal Controls & Profit Protection
  • Corporate and business functions: Corporate Finance, Corporate Accounting, Corporate Treasury & Taxes, Global Operations, Brand Marketing, Sales (Wholesale/Retail/e-com), IT & HR

  • GBS: GPOs, Global functions, Operational Close to Report Teams in Porto and Operational Europe Finance Teams in multiple countries across Europe.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication and people management skills

  • Ability to manage complexity and diverse senior stakeholders
  • Learning agility and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to coach, guide and manage teams in a trustful and proficient manner

  • Strong motivation and skills to drive standardization and efficiency within their process area

  • Ability to travel, domestic or international, as required

  • Fluent English (verbal and written)


Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:
  • Degree in Finance, Management, Business Administration or related areas, or equivalent combinations of educations

  • Qualified ACA/CIMA/Msc Acc&Fin is an advantage, minimum 7-10 years post qualification experience, preferably in a Controlling/Business environment. Experience in a sizeable blue chip commercial business would be an advantage
  • Experience of working in accounting, planning, budgeting, forecasting processes and data management
  • Multiple years of experiences in shared service center / Global Business Services organizations
