A research position for one Research Grant (?Bolsa de Investigação de Licenciado?) is open at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project FreeComm-B5G. This project is funded by FCT/MCTES through national funds and when applicable co-funded EU funds under the project UIDB/50008/2020-UIDP/50008/2020. The workplan for this position is within the framework of ultra-high-capacity free-space optical communications.

Admission Requirements:
The scholarships referred to in this call may be used to carry out initial R&D activities by students enrolled in a professional higher technical course, in a degree, an integrated master's or a master's degree graduates and also who are enrolled in non-conferencing courses academic degrees integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units. Bachelor degree on telecommunications engineering, informatics and telematics engineering, or equivalent, with knowledge on the area of optical communication systems, great motivation and ability for teamwork.

Work Objectives:
The selected candidate will work on the development, implementation and optimization of high-capacity free-space optics (FSO) systems, including the following main tasks: - Implementation of optical beam alignment mechanisms for FSO systems; - Characterization of pointing error tolerance in FSO systems based on direct fiber-core collimation or photodiode-based reception; - outdoor deployment of a set of high-capacity FSO links.

Applicable legislation:
A fellowship will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT, ?Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações? fellowships? and ?Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação?, according to Law no. 40/2004, dated August 18 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), in its actual redaction, and also by Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. Place of work:
The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Dr. Fernando Guiomar.

Duration:
7 months, with the possibility of renewal. Start date: May 2021 or soon thereafter.

Monthly salary:
835.98? according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ). The payment will be made by bank transfer.

Communication of the results:
DEADLINES AND PROCEDURES FOR PRELIMINARY HEARING, CLAIMS AND APPEALS
Once the provisional ranked list of the evaluation results has been communicated, applicants have 10 business days to, if they wish, dispute the decision during the preliminary hearing phase, according to Articles no. 121 and the following of the Administrative Procedure Code (CPA).
The final decision will be disclosed after the analysis of the applicants? arguments presented in the preliminary hearing. The final decision can be claimed within 15 business days or, alternatively, appealed within 30 business days, after the communication of the results, respectively. Applicants who choose to submit a claim should present their arguments to the member of the FCT Board of the Directors with the delegated competence. Applicants who prefer to submit an appeal should present their arguments to the FCT Board of Directors.
Results will be published at the Instituto de Telecomunicações, in Aveiro. The selected candidate will be notified by email.
