Job Description:
The Packaging Technician will support packaging development in all material categories according to NPD process, and will deliver the packaging material, technology, design, quality and sustainability knowledge to the packaging design and development process. Will have a vital role in developing packaging solutions, together with the concepting/designing team, product managers, supply chain, NPD, marketing and external service providers of Mendes Gonçalves.

The Packaging Technician will ensure continuous development in packaging and its sustainability and logistics-related costs, possessing packaging construction design and end to end packaging knowledge. Will manage packaging design and development projects, independently or via collaboration with NPD managers, and will communicate to different stakeholders, assist and support different areas in the company with packaging design and development-related issues.

The Packaging Technician will be responsible for the creation of packaging specifications, technical approvals, effective packaging testing programs with Quality Assurance and specification management and must have the capability to design packaging structures using common packaging design software.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate and contribute to the development of packaging concepts, roadmaps and specification with all relevant internal/external stakeholders.


• Generate technical drawings & specifications, structural packaging models & packaging guidelines, independently or with internal/external partners, and issue to packaging suppliers and/or NPD managers in a timely manner.


• Provide a technical service to enable the promotion of new concepts & packaging innovation to assist the company in the delivery of customer needs in an appropriate and cost-effective format


• The provision of technical packaging expertise within NPD, trouble-shooting, harmonization, transfer & cost improvement projects


• Actively collaborate to build and maintain successful working relationships with designated internal/external packaging suppliers


• The provision of technical packaging supplier evaluation & development support to the supply chain


• Develop and implement general packaging guidelines with NPD oganization to facilitate efficient packaging development.


• Management of daily packaging material-related issues

Requirements

• MSc in Materials Engineering, Food Engineering, Chemistry Engineering, Packaging Engineering or Design, significant academic background or working experience within an operative & structural packaging/designing environment (MANDATORY).


• Time-served experience of working within technical packaging, with good awareness of packaging construction & development, materials and production technologies.


• Packaging structure design capability via the utilization of established and common design software programs


• Familiarity with continuous improvement techniques to secure target driven improvement within packaging structure & design


• Successful record in ?end to end? project management within packaging field, to include managing critical deadlines and targets


• Experience of branded consumer product packaging and the logistical requirements.


• Team working ability and willingness to work within a complex matrix environment, to network, collaborate, seek alignment and to persuade and influence


• Detail-orientation, accuracy, strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem identification and resolution


• Good Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, other Office software programs (3D, Design, ...) and SAP.


• Fluent in English, spoken and written, with excellent communication skills
