A call is open to award one research grant for PhD Students to develop research activities within the I&D Project IN2TRACK2, Call H2020-S2RJU-CFM-2018, Action Shift2Rail-IA-LS, proposal number 826255, financed by the EU, in the following conditions:

Students of PhD in Civil Engineering

Candidates to this research fellowship must fulfil the following points:


  • Master in Civil Engineering. For the evaluation of the final average classification of the candidates with Bachelor and Master, it will be attributed a weight of 60% to the final classification in the Bachelor and 40% to the final classification in the Master.

  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Eligibility criteria: Candidates must fulfil the eligibility criteria defined in point 9º of the ?Regulamento de Bolsas da Universidade do Minho?, publicado no Diário da República n.º 119/2020, Série II de 2020-06-22.




Work plan
: Design approach for optimum type and content of fibres in a Fibre Reinforced Concrete application for tunneling strengthening.




Applicable legislation and regulations
: Status of the scientific researcher fellow approved by Law nº 40/2004 of 18th of August, in its current form published by Decree-Law nº 123/2019 of 28th of August); ?Regulamento de Bolsas da Universidade do Minho?, publicado no Diário da República n.º 119/2020, Série II de 2020-06-22.




Work place
: The research work will be developed at the School of Engineering of University of Minho (ISISE ? Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering), under the scientific supervision of Professor Joaquim Barros.




Duration of the Grant:
The grant will have the maximum duration of 5 months, beginning in December 1st, 2020.




Monthly Allowance:
The monthly allowance corresponds to ?1074.64, according to the pay scale for the grants of the ?Universidade do Minho? (Anexo II ? Tabela dos Montantes das Bolsas).




Selection criteria (1):
The evaluation of applications will focus on the candidate’s Merit, applying the following evaluation criteria, expressed in a scale from 0 and 5.



Candidate’s Merit – MC (100%):


a) Academic performance – 45% (For the evaluation of the final average classification of the candidates with Bachelor and Master, it will be attributed a weight of 60% to the final classification in the Bachelor and 40% to the final classification in the Master) b) Scientific production (papers, reports, etc.) – 20%
c) Previous experience in the field of the project – 25% d) Proficiency in both written and spoken English (EN) – 10%

MC=(a*0,45)+(b*0,2)+(c*0,25) +(d*0,1)

Candidates with MC less than 3.5 points are considered immediately excluded.



For candidates with MC equal to or greater than 3.5 points, the evaluation process includes the interview (IN). In this case, the interview (IN) will have a weight of 35% in the final classification, and a Canidate´s Mérit (MC) will have a weight of 65% in the final classification.



Candidates with final grade less than 3.5 points are considered excluded from the final selection process.



The Selection Committee reserves the right not to award the research fellowship in the competition based on the evaluation results of the applicants and their suitability for the project objectives.

Publicitation/notification of results
: The proposed results, including the official records, will be transmitted to all applicants using e-mail, up to 90 work days after the deadline for applications.




In case of unfavourable results, applicants have 10 working days to inquire the selection committee, in this preliminary hearing, according to section 121º and 122º from ?Código do Procedimento Administrativo (DL nº 4/2015 de 7 de janeiro)?.




Appeal
: Final results will be placed at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Minho. Candidates will also be notified by email, including the official records of the selection process.

The selected candidate should reply (in writing) his/her intention to accept the scholarship. In case of refusal, the scholarship will be given to the next applicant in the final ranking.



The final results could be contested, up to 15 working days, with an appeal addressed to the President of the Selection Committee. This appeal could also be addressed to the Vice-Dean, Professor Filipe Vaz.

: The call is open from 30/10/2020 to 12/11/2020.



Applications must be made through an application letter together with the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, certificates of graduation degrees with grades (or additional transcript of grades) or a Declaration of Honour; document stating participation in a PhD programme.
